As they say, when you don’t plan things then you get the best of things. I rarely let myself not plan things ahead, but this summer I was just too busy with other things and didn’t quite manage to plan my summer vacation. And guess what? Somehow it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable summer vacations I have ever had. Maybe it is because I didn’t have some great expectations and just let myself really feel the moments …
And as the years go by, I have noticed that I get really bored sitting in one place for more than 3 days. I don’t feel lazy to travel and changing places is lately the best time I have far away from home. So, this summer has been really a mix: a little bit of sea and a little bit of lake side mixed with some mountain climbing. And I can tell you it was completely refreshing.
The best part was meeting some crazy people, you know the spontaneous kind of people that just go with the flow, people that are not judgmental and let themselves get involved in things without overthinking them. It was very funny to find out that we even had same profession and we were from same town. What a coincidence!
One part of this summer was sort of a family trip to our nearest lake and this was the most surprising part. We have found the most gorgeous little house on the hill, a true hidden pearl. I was truly thrilled with this vacation house. (*** at the bottom of this post you can find the name and the destination of this house).
So, we just set the day and the destination and that was all the preparation: no room reservations at all. It was noon when we finally got there and it was blistering hot. I was feeling really nervous, wondering if we would manage to get some free rooms. So, after only 10 minutes of being clueless, asking for spare rooms and directions we ended up climbing a steep little hill. And at the top there was our little beauty – our lake dreamhouse. What a surprise! Luckily it was the end of the season so plenty of benefits there!
The end of a season has become my new favorite vacation time. Everything is so much more relaxed, no hassle, no crowd. Just complete relaxation. And I have also noticed people are much more friendly, nobody is pushing you to do anything (like ordering more drinks just to keep the beach seat a little longer). It almost feels like the beach is all yours and everything around it. It’s easier to start a conversation as there aren’t many people around and for some reason this leads to just a little higher level of familiarity feeling.
Did I mention the prices? Well, they are just awesome at the end of the summer. The water is the warmest – which for me is a valid enough reason to take a vacation at the end of the summer. Maybe I also feel a sense of the summer ending so everything is just more intense, as if enjoying it’s last days. Almost nostalgic even. Really can’t beat the feeling.
So, we got great accommodation, near beach almost vacant, great beach bar seats free to use for as long as you wish, cold nights great for a summer sleep and even some cute pets in the house: a big parrot arrived and we had the cutest three Labrador puppies.
For an internet junky like me there was a solid internet connection and even some piano and guitars for music lovers.
And besides the amazing lake view there was a little pool just below our room, so we had a double water watching pleasure.
Actually everything was so perfect that I still can’t believe how we managed to find such a place. As they say a picture is worth a thousand words so take a look and enjoy the great views (double click to enlarge):
