So I don’t celebrate Christmas any more. I even threw away all my Christmas decorations. Yes, I also threw away a Buddha statue that was a gift from a dear friend of mine since college.
Maybe you’ll ask why I don’t celebrate Christmas anymore?
I’ve been reading and studying my Bible more and I realized that Christmas is in its roots a pagan tradition. Jesus was not born in December but rather sometime in fall. The Bible does not mention that we should celebrate Christmas, nor the Christmas tree nor the celebration of Christmas on December 25 are mentioned in the Bible.
Now this is possible for me because I don’t have a family. Christmas is one of the biggest family traditions so it would be really hard to explain to small children why everybody is celebrating but you aren’t. It is possible to celebrate Christmas in a christian spirit, quietly and without extremes (mostly in eating and drinking). But that is another topic.
But I do celebrate the New Year!
This year I’ll be 40. Yes forty and it does sound scary, where did the years go by so fast? So I really don’t feel like doing crazy parties anymore, it suits me more to do quiet things and to be feel happy inside.
Today is a day before the New Year’s eve and I have accidentally discovered a gorgeous place in my town. It really made me happy, lifted up my soul and made me feel so peaceful. Maybe the weather had its part in it, I enjoy these clear winter days with mild wind and soft sun during the day so much. I am so grateful to God for this weather, just perfect for me!
This is my perfect cafe place discovery today:
It has a perfect view, you can see the cross on the top of the mountain, and the air is so clear, what a true joy. And the best of it all: it is an urban place, the music is soft jazz, which is my favorite kind of music. Nothing too loud and trendy, just a perfect relaxing background music.
The waiters treat you with respect: probably because the prices are higher than other places :)). But it feels good to be treated with respect and to feel the dignified atmosphere.
I have definitely found my new favorite place for coffee and lunch during weekends.
Not too crowded as well, just the way I like it. I love, love, love the view and it has a balcony for hot summer days. Oh just perfect!
A Gift For Myself
English is not my native language and as I blog I really want to get deeper into it. I’ve started reading this summer a book written in English and I think it’s a good idea for me to read in English to practice it more.
So as I was wondering around I came across an English bookstore. Being a bookworm all my life I was drawn to it so I went in.
I have found the most incredible deal: English classics for ridiculously low price. Low price as a one hamburger meal price. Crazy!
So I decided that this would be a gift for myself for 2018! No one can give you a better gift than you can do it yourself :).
So here are the 5 sweet books I picked for myself today:
So I have also found my new favorite bookstore. What a wonderful day I had:
- visited my mom, gave her money only to realize she was down to her last one and she never told me about it. That warm feeling inside and happiness that she won’t have to think twice what to buy, it’s the final new Year celebration days after all.
- Got my dog to a vet, everything went ok
- Found a totally perfect new place in town
- Got a perfect gift for myself
We have a beautiful weather for the New Year celebration and I intend to enjoy myself these days to the fullest!
