I got 6 days of unexpected vacation – almost a week earlier than planned. I have bought myself some great toys – a great wordpress Amazon theme and a cute wordpress plugin. I also found myself a free plugin that suited my needs. So I was planning on installing them, checking the code and learning.
I was really looking forward to this, imagining all the time that I had and how I would enjoy these toys. I also found some java classes for retrieving Amazon product details, installed them, got them working with a little tweak and everything was set for me to dive into the code.
But you know how things happen in life. You make your plans and they just go down like a domino row. It starts with the first domino and it goes all the way to the end.
And this is how it started:
I had a missing dog at my work, she hasn’t shown for 3 days in a row and I got worried. I spent a lot of time feeding this dog and fighting for it and I didn’t want it to end at the shelter being killed after all that effort I put in saving her. So I contacted the local animal protection group and a girl volunteered to come with me to the town shelter to check if I can find my dog there.
I had to ask for help and have a company – it’s a horrible place that breaks my heart and I had no strength to do it by myself.
So I veiled my car with those black garbage plastic bags to protect the seats and the floor and off we went.
My dog was not there and they told they had no actions in the area of my workplace – which was a relief, at least she is not in the shelter notorious for killing dogs!
And imagine what I found there! This gorgeous, beautiful husky dog:
Wow, what a beauty this is! I can’t understand how it ended up in that shelter.
So, we got her and another dog and somehow I ended up taking this beauty to my tiny apartment! Unbelievable how much I fell in love with her. I never planned this. It is a BIG dog for such small apartment.
The next day we went again and got out two more dogs so I rescued 4 dogs – and a little baby rescued just in time. My heart is full.
So, the day I saved her I went nuts in arranging things to fit the new dog – bought a leash and a collar, a new bedding piece (you an see it on the image, it is really gorgeous) and two red plastic food plates.
I threw away the hallway carpet because this dog had a lot of hair falling around and made adjustment in the bathroom. I named her LUNA because she had the colors of the moon – white and grey. This dog really looked like a wolf. Almost the same!
Do I need to say my car was a mess? All dirty from the muddy paws and the little puppy vomited inside. I took it to the car wash and after that I also took a dry, liquid disinfection soap and wiped out all that I could. I also ordered new car seat covers. That is something I wanted to do a long ago, it just never happened.
I was running around like mad! Cleaning things, buying and arranging my home. It was exhausting really, considering that I mostly sit my days away. And I’m really not in my youngest years!
Luna was incredibly quiet – maybe form the trauma of what she has been through, maybe she was scared. It was the quietest dog I have ever seen. She stayed in the hallway most of the time and a few times I took her out on my tiny balcony. She never barked, just some howling and little noises when she wanted something. The first few days she was my dream dog.
I walked her around a lot – I was joking with my friends that I have finally found my perfect weight loosing thing! She had to be walked outside unless I wanted to clean after her – this grosses me the most, so I even got up at night and took her out. It was like 1 am, 4 am, in the middle of the night when I walked her out.
And there was some magic into it. I never saw my area in such lighting, without a soul around. It was chilli too but it felt good!
Another thing that I have noticed is all the people starting conversation with me while I was walking her. We people never approach each other to start a conversation just like that, everyone is closed and cold. But with a dog! Oh what a difference. It really is true that a dog can socialize you so that is another good reason to get a dog. I have never talked to so many people since I moved in my apartment here. Really amazing.
But there was this question – what will such a big dog do all on its own for 9 long hours while I am at work? Locked in the hallway with no natural light. And all the cleaning I had to do! Like I just cleaned my shower pad and she walked all over it after a few hours. She howled so loud when I left her alone to go to the shop. I just washed the car blanket and she vomited on it. I was running in a never ending circle of cleaning everything and everything not being clean.
The thing that made my final decision was this: I put her on the balcony for 2-3 hours. Downstairs we have neighbors who live in a big house and a yard and have 3 dogs. The biggest fun for these dogs is that they bark on everything moving around. So Luna listened to them and after 3 hours there she was – joining the tribe and barking with them! There was no way I could keep a big, barking husky dog in a small apartment and walls that allow me to hear when my neighbor’s phone alarm is ringing.
So I put her image and description for an adoption on facebook, the local animal lovers groups. A lot of people called and yesterday I drove her to her new family. The people seemed nice, they had a nice yard and two children. So I know the place, their number and I can keep an eye that she is properly taken care of.
So goodbye Luna – I wish I could have kept you 🙁 ! I hope you will be happy in your new home and I will be watching that you have a decent life!
