In summer time I just can’t resist an ice cream – it is one of my daily summer delights. That of course has a sad side – the numbers on my bathroom scale are not so irresistible!
So while thinking how to eat ice cream and not get fat, I remembered one reality TV show I was forced to watch (I don’t like TV too much), during my coffee meetings with a friend at her home. There were these twin girls, very beautiful and very thin, who surprisingly seemed to be chewing something all the time during the show. Accidentally I caught on an episode where one girl explained their method of not getting fat and it was a recipe from their grandmother. The time this recipe was born was probably a time where no commercial ice creams were available, or even if available, certainly not on every corner and in all the heavenly tastes imaginable.
Remembering this episode I decided to give their recipe a try. And I was extremely pleased with the result! I got a great tasting, cold and sweet treatment with almost no calories in it! You could actually eat this stuff as much as you want, satisfy your need for ice cream and still keep your body line the same.
I make this treatment now on daily basis, and I especially like it in the morning: it gives me an instant waking up when mixed with coffee. I simply love this recipe and I am about to show it to you.
So, what do you need for making this simple extremely low carb ice cream?
Really the most inexpensive ingredients ever! Basically all you need is a glass and a juice of some kind. I personally use those powder vitamin juices. I am hard on eating healthy food so I make belief that I am replacing vital nutritional stuff by drinking artificial vitamins – which of course is wrong but it tastes good and calms my consciousness : ) I do eat bananas and peaches but that is about all the fruit and vegetables I eat. Next, there is only one more thing that you will need and that would be a plastic box for putting the liquid in. I use the most simplest plastic box possible, the one that came together with my fridge for making ice cubes, just because I forget to buy something more convenient. Another box for my favorite ice cream recipe is on my list to get – if only I would remember it till my next going to the stores. I tend to buy only the most necessary things at the moment and always promise to get it the next time for sure. So, in short here is what you need:
- Sweet liquid made out of powder juice or any other kind of juice
- A plastic box for the liquid
By now you are probably guessing what would the ice cream be. But, there is one secret to this ice cream recipe that you are probably not aware of. Just stick to the end of this post and I will reveal it to you. Here is an image of my pre-pouring the liquid into the box and my juice poured into the box:
And the time has come to freeze this thing up. Do you know just how quickly after you put it into the freezer will you have a cold ice cream? About two and a half hours. Actually, it depends on how you like to eat it: solid frozen or half frozen. I like it half frozen so I take it out in around 2 hours.
Here are 2 images of my finished extreme diet friendly ice cream:
Now, you may be thinking that this thing can’t be delicious and you can’t be more wrong! It really surprised me to too that the taste is very similar to a regular ice cream – minus the calories. Besides having an amazingly low amount of calories there are a few major benefits of this ice creme (or ice cubes):
- It will surprise you how a glass of juice in a frozen state can be hard to eat at once. Maybe it is the coldness but it does take an effort to eat it, for example I can eat maximum 4-5 cubes at once.
- Satisfies your hunger and the need to chew something. This would be particularly beneficial to those who turn to food in stressful times.
- The body spends energy on melting the ice so it may actually give negative calories (not quite sure about this but it kind of a makes sense).
So, there it is and you can’t beat the quick and easy way to make this kind of an ice cream. A winner in this category for sure!
I hope you will give this recipe a try and enjoy it! I know it is definitely my summer ice cream hit!
